I managed to get my 555 timers that I purchased here up to about 450 KHz and still get a stable square wave out, I can go a little higher but then my 555 timers at least lose stability. The low voltage 555 timers which are different can go higher up to 1 MHz I believe, 5 MHz is not possible with the 555 timer chip.
