In my part of the world, the Baofeng UV-5R is the most common Baofeng sold (I have a few of those). In relation to that, Baofeng really raised the bar with this handheld in a huge way.
Keeping the price point nearly the same:
1) it went from 3 bands to 6 bands;
2) battery life almost doubled to now being nearly 2 days;
3) the feel of it is more solid/substantial;
4) USB charging is a big plus;
5) all else remains about the same.

But I have listened clearly to some conversations from people around 20-25 km away. Depends on what is between you and them also.
